Arkadiusz Gołaś
Arkadiusz Gołaś – Polish volleyball player, participant in the Olympic Games, member of the Poland national team in 2001–2005. World Cadet Champion, member of AZS Częstochowa − a three-time vice-champion of Poland.
Junior champion of Poland (2000), winner of a bronze medal at the Polish Championship (2004) , participant of the Olympic Games in Athens, 2004. In the season 2004/2005 he played in Italy’s Sempre Volley Padova, where he received fantastic reviews for his performance. He was acclaimed one of the best foreigners in the Italian first league, which until now has been the best volleyball league in the world. In 2005 he signed a three-year contract with Lube Banca Macerata, one of the world’s top volleyball clubs, and in the same year (September 16th 2005) was tragically killed in a road accident on the Austrian A2 motorway in Griffen near Klagenfurt. In 2006, he was posthumously awarded the Golden Cross of Merit for outstanding sporting performance by the Polish President.
