Bronisław Bebel

Bronisław Bebel – Polish volleyball player, medallist of the European Championship (1977), Montreal Olympic Champion (1976).

He graduated from a technical school of construction. Player of Chełmiec Wałbrzych, later Resovia Rzeszów and Hutnik Kraków, as well as French clubs: AS Grenoble and Spacer’s de Toulouse.

His most significant achievements in the club league were with Resovia, and included four Polish Champion titles (1971, 1972, 1974, 1975), Polish Cup (1975), second place in the final round of the CEV Champions League Cup of 1972/73 and third place in the CEV Cup Winners’ Cup finals.

Moreover, he was three-time runner-up in the Championship of Poland: 1973 (Resovia Rzeszów), 1978, 1979 (Hutnik Kraków) and two-time bronze medallist of the Championship of Poland: 1970, 1971 (Resovia Rzeszów). Wearing the colours of AS Grenoble, he played in the CEV Cup Winners’ Cup finals (1982), where his club took the fourth place.

He was selected member of the national team 199 times (1968−1978) and participated the Olympic Games twice: Munich (1972) – 9th place, and Montreal (1976) – gold medal. He earned a silver medal at the European Championship in Helsinki (1977), participated in the World Championship in Rome (1978) and the European Championship in Milan (1971), securing the 8th and 6th places, respectively. He took part in the World Cup in Leipzig (1969 – 8th place), Prague (1973 – 2nd place) and Tokyo (1977 – 4th place).

He also received a gold and a silver Medal for Outstanding Sporting Performance as well as the Golden Cross of Merit.
