Wiesław Gawłowski
Wiesław Gawłowski – (dubbed ‘Gaweł’ or ‘Shorty’ because of his small stature − only 180 cm) was a volleyball player, coach, World Champion (Mexico) and Olympic gold medallist (Montreal). He played 366 matches with the Polish national team (1969−1980), up until recently holding the Polish record in this regard. Wiesław Gawłowski died in a car accident on November 14th 2000 when travelling from Budzianów to Białołęka near Płock.
