Włodzimierz Stefański
Włodzimierz Stefański – volleyball player of Gwardia Wrocław, World Champion (1974) and Olympic Champion (1976). He was selected for the national team 267 times (1969−1980).
Awards and achievements
A player (192 cm, 90 kg) of Gwardia Wrocław (from 1965), various teams of Warsaw (Skra, AZS and Legia), Resovia Rzeszów, and Finnish teams: KIMMO Lahti and Mikheli Vauhti. With Resovia he won the third place in the CEV Cup Winners’ Cup finals (1973/74), two Championships of Poland (1974, 1975) and, with Legia Warsaw, three bronze medals of the Polish Cup (1977, 1978, 1980).
He participated in the Olympic Games twice. He was a member of the ‘Golden Team’ (Montreal, 1976) and a team in Munich (1972, 9th place). The World Champion of Mexico (1974), a finalist of the World Championship in Rome (1978, 8th place), two-time participant of the World Cup (Prague 1973 − 2nd place and Tokyo 1977 − 4th place), two-times silver medallist of the European Championship (Belgrade 1975 and Helsinki 1977) and a finalist of the European Championship in Milan (1971, 6th place).
He received two gold and one silver Medal for Outstanding Sporting Performance as well as the Golden Cross of Merit.
